I’m still rolling ass over tea-kettle down the hill that is FFXIV, and between head bumps I’ve picked up a few things that tends to make life a bit easier. This is the third list I’ve put together so far! Hopefully some of them have been helpful to new players.

  1. Google items before buying them off the market board, and if you find out its not a vendor item, use the world visit function to check the price on different servers. You can save thousands to millions on higher priced items, like the vanity gear that only crafters can make. Almost anything you want to buy that is lower than max level can be bought from vendors.
  2. Bookmark these pages: https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/FF14_Wiki, and https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Main_Page. Anytime you need to look up a quest location, an item, etc. it’s going to be here.
  3. Use the Party Finder (pf). If you are looking forward to doing something new and are trying to get into the activity, whether its savage raids, extreme trials, treasure hunts, pvp, or whatever, make sure you look in the Party Finder option. You’ll never find Savage Raids or Extreme Trials through the duty finder, you’ll spend forever in queue. Everyone uses the party finder for these. You can usually get fairly rapid frontlines queues by using the dirty finder, however if you’re looking for a static premade team for modes other than frontlines, you’ll need to utilize other methods. As I have said before Revival Wings is a good pvp discord group, but another one that you can utilize is PvPaissa. Activities like treasure hunts, role playing events, recruitment events, golden saucer events, and item farming events will almost exclusively be on the party finder.

I strongly encourage you to join this community.

4.You will not make it rich off of gathering jobs, unless you put in the effort reach max level, and tackle the hardest gatherer content to earn the scrips (currency) to buy the gear, to earn the scrips to unlock the additional nodes, in order to then craft the items as a crafter job. Crafter jobs are a money sink, until you have them at max level, with BiS gear, that is overmelded, and you have the materials to make the crafted combat gear and vanity items. The only benefit to leveling crafters outside of this money endgame, is that you can repair your own gear. When you repair your own gear, you actually over-repair it, meaning you can save a decent amount of money this way.

5. Easy Money From Easy Drops. Your retainers can make you money, through farmed vendor trash and also occasionally bring you rare items, such as highly valued pets or furnishings. Bozja and Eureka content both drop lockboxes that will give you random rewards, including some rare items like mounts, pets, vanity items and more.

6. Check your target filters. Are you having difficulty with the targeting systems? In your target filters in your character menu you can change  multiple options on how the target system works for you. You can even make it so you can ignore certain targets when using tab or the left/right arrows while you’re weapon is drawn. In addition to this you can also make it so that your hotbars change when weapons are drawn or sheathed.

Hopefully I was able to help someone out, even if just a little bit. If you think of anything else to add, leave it in comments for others to see.
