Storytime 2: Electric Freeze Tag

This isnt so much my story as my wife’s but its funny nonetheless.  During the Belias fight in Ridorana Lighthouse raid the healers get targetted with a tether. Anyone that touches the tether is instantly hit with a “stop” status effect which freezes you in place. Combined with other incoming AOE attacks this can spell certain death for more than just the frozen, as at this point players are supposed to shift the direction of four  AOEs that also appear. 

Upon realizing this, my wife (WHM main) and her friend Keori (WHM main) decided that it would be more fun to attempt to hit as many people as they possible could with said tether. Soon, those of us in the know became pretty adept and seeing the angles they were running and we able to avoid them. We began to warn the rando’s in the roulette groups with us.

“WARNING <se6> Healers are going to freeze you with tether. May the odds be ever in your favor” and then Kiera and Keori would be chatting in alliance chat about freezing everyone.

This would usually result in a dismissal vote starting for one of them. I’d be lying if I said they didn’t deserve it but my god it was funny sometimes. 

People who had a generally good sense of humor would play along (since generally people tend to clown about in 24 man raids once the playerbase knows the mechanics), and they would be running from the healers, or trying to jump over the tethers along with the rest of us. 

People would also understandably be upset with our healers’ antics and would vote dismiss.

To this day I’m astounded neither of them were reported for harassment. 

Final Fantasy XIV really does have a pretty awesome player base.
